Choosing floor plans, color schemes, elevations, cabinetry, countertops, flooring and other options can be overwhelming — and stressful — to buyers of new homes.

Eventually, decision fatigue sets in.

So when it comes to simplifying the home-buying process, Green Brick Partners Inc. (Nasdaq: GRBK) took a lesson from the auto industry, said Jed Dolson, president of the Texas region for the Plano-based residential real estate developer and investment company.

“We’ve looked at the auto industry and seen how they have simplified the buying process so much,” Dolson told me in a recent interview. “We’ve tried to be like Tesla with our elevations — something new and sleek that people haven’t really seen in the marketplace, but by offering preplanned packages, we’re able to offer better value to our customers.”
